Hollywood has nothing on the Bible. Have you ever really paid attention to these people? I’ll be the first to admit it. I’ve listened to Sunday School teachers and pastors tell stories from the bible my whole life. Only in the past few years have I really began to read my Bible to actually understand it. I’ve always read a scripture or two as part of a daily devotion, etc.
I am currently reading the Bible in chronological order. No disrespect, but these people were crazy! Their lives are just as messed up and twisted as our own. Isn’t that something we should be telling kids? Age-appropriately, of course. Maybe if we told the history as it’s actually told in the scriptures, church kids wouldn’t grow up feeling like failures when they don’t measure up to Biblical “heroes.” Just a thought.
Today I wanted to talk about love in the Bible. My original intent was to retell stories of passion and devotion. That idea took a hard turn when I actually read these accounts I’d heard growing up. Let’s just say, Hallmark won’t be streaming movies based on these romances anytime soon. True Crime, Inside Edition, E! Entertainment? Maybe.
While most of these couples won’t give you butterflies, God obviously wanted us to know about them. The dynamics of their “dating” isn’t something He wants us to emulate, I promise you that!
I’ll just go down my list of lovers (I use that term loosely) and share my thoughts.
